Seeing Machines, an industry leader in computer vision technologies, revealed it has been working with Emirates on a study to better understand how pilots interact and monitor instruments that could pose potential safety risks on flights.

Findings of that study were to be presented at the 70th annual International Safety Summit in Dublin this week.

Seeing Machines said the subsidiary of The Emirates Group was working alongside the company to use "non-intrusive" eye and head-tracking technology in effort to collect gaze data from a sample of Emirate line pilots, while flying standard training scenarios in Emirates flight simulators, enhancing the quality of the factual data collected to improve training and make operations safer in preparation for a variety of scenarios in the air.

In turn, Seeing Machines said working with Emirates meant access to insights from Emirate pilots as well as extensive knowledge of operating a modern 263-strong fleet of Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft across a global network of over 155 destinations in six continents.

The partnership would help the Company leverage findings in applications across the other industries, the company added.

Patrick Nolan, GM Aviation at Seeing Machines, commented: "We have been working closely with Emirates for the past two years and I am delighted to have the opportunity to integrate our state-of-the-art technology into this world class airline, with its outstanding reputation for safety and innovation. Working with Emirates in this partnership will assist in the development of a Seeing Machines solution that not only supports Emirates, but the aviation industry more broadly."
