SABMiller’s chief financial officer Jamie Wilson has resigned with immediate effect from the company for personal reasons.

Current director of group strategy Domenic De Lorenzo will replace him until the someone is chosen to fill the role permanently.

Wilson will exit the board immediately and will officially leave the group on 31 March 2015.

Broker Shore Capital said: "This is certainly a surprise announcement, in our view, and judging from SAB’s track record of financial performance and the successful delivery of the business capability programme, it is the loss of an important member of SAB’s management team."

Analysts noted that it was "slightly strange" given that Wilson had tendered his resignation that he will still be paid a short-term incentive bonus in respect of the 2015 financial year and £762,200 in lieu of notice for his contractual notice period of 12 months along with some other payments.

Chief executive Alan Clark noted: “I am saddened by Jamie's departure. He has been a huge support to me over many years, first in Europe and then over the past several years as CFO.

“His contributions to the development of our strategy, the delivery of our business capability programme, the building of our new business efficiency programme, and the strengthening of the finance functions will be a lasting legacy. He leaves the group in sound financial health, and we all wish him every success in the future."
