The Rank Group announced on Wednesday that Alan Morgan, currently managing director of retail, has tendered his resignation to the board and would be leaving the business on 31 July to pursue other opportunities.

He joined Rank in 2016 to run Mecca's retail business, and progressed to lead the group's UK retail division in 2017.

The FTSE 250 firm said Morgan’s day-to-day responsibilities would be assumed by the chief executive, with the search for his successor to begin immediately.

It said it would provide an update as and when appropriate.

“I would like to thank Alan for all of his hard work in our retail businesses over the last three years,” said chief executive officer John O'Reilly.

“He has been instrumental in leading the transformation plan across the division and he leaves Rank with our best wishes for the future.”

Alan Morgan himself added that he had a “very exciting” three years with Rank, but felt that now was the appropriate time for a new challenge.

“I wish John and the team every success as they continue to work through the transformation plan.”
