Morgan Advanced Materials was looking for a new, improved financial direction on Wednesday, announcing the appointment of Peter Turner to the role of chief financial officer.

The FTSE 250 company said the 45-year-old had a strong track record of driving improved business performance, having been finance director at Smiths Group from 2010 to 2015.

“During his five years at Smiths Group, he was responsible for driving restructuring programmes across the group to enhance operating margins and with a strong focus on improving operating cash flow,” Morgan’s board said in a statement.

Prior to that, he held similar roles at Venture Production from 2007 until its takeover by Centrica in 2009, and several positions at the BOC Group, including finance director of the Industrial and Special Products division.

Turner started his career as an auditor at Price Waterhouse, and held a first class degree in chemistry from Oxford University.

The company confirmed he would begin his new role on 11 April, succeeding Kevin Dangerfield, whose departure was announced last week.
