AIM-listed software developer Petards has been awarded a contract worth more than £2.7m to supply Bombardier with its eyeTrain systems.

The new contract will see Petards supply eyeTrain systems as part of a Class 172 modifications project for supply to a total of 35 West Midlands trains. The trains will be modified to have Petards Automatic Selective Door Opening system, Driver Controlled Operation CCTV and Automatic Passenger Counting systems installed.

Engineering activities will begin immediately, with the first equipment deliveries starting in January 2019 and it is expected that the project will be completed in 2020.

Chairman Raschid Abdullah said: "This new order adds to our already significant installed base and strengthens our position as the leader of on-train video and data solutions. Additionally it further bolsters the group's present order book for delivery in 2019 through to 2020."

Petards' eyeTrain solutions combine to provide a digital on-train surveillance subsystem designed to help maximise safety and performance, assisting train operating companies and train builders in meeting passenger and industry demands.

The eyeTrain products, which can also be used separately, integrate into the system architecture of a train and have been specifically designed to perform in the harsh conditions of the rail environment, maintaining a high level of reliability, dependability and requiring a low level of maintenance.
