Nissan to invest £100m in UK car plant

Nissan will invest £100m in its Sunderland, UK car plant to build the new Juke model range.

In a statement on Thursday, the Japanese automaker said the capital investment would give security to the “Sunderland plant beyond 2020". The site employs 6,700 personnel.

Last year, the facility manufactured 500,000 cars, according to Nissan, making it the biggest car plant in the UK in terms of units assembled.

According to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, UK car production in the first half of the year came in at 793,642 cars; the highest level on record since 2008.
