The public transport company National Express has announced that its joint venture, Bahrain Public Transport Company (BPTC) has won a 10-year contract to operate bus services from the Bahraini Ministry of Transportation.

BPTC’s contract will begin 15 February 2015 and is expected to generate over £170m in revenue by the end of the decade.

This presents the opportunity for National Express to capitalise on a new regional market and explore emerging trends across the Middle East.

National Express Group Chief Executive Dean Finch said: “We are delighted to win this new contract for bus services in Bahrain alongside our partners, AMA.”

“We expect this win to provide a platform for further expansion in the region and our team are already working on other opportunities.”

The contract means that 141 new vehicles will serve the capital, Manama, and the inter-urban routes across the entire Kingdom of Bahrain.
