The luxury retailer Mulberry appointed Thierry Andretta as the new chief executive one year after the former boss left the group following a profit warning.

Andretta is currently a non-executive director and will start his new role next month.

He had previously worked for brands like Moschino, Gucci and CĂ©line and will work alongside the new creative director Johnny Coca, who is also due to start his new job in July.

Thierry Andretta said: "I am delighted to become chief executive after nearly a year as a non-executive director. Mulberry is a truly authentic British brand with a unique manufacturing base in the UK."

Chairman Godfrey Davis, who has been acting as interim chief executive since Bruno Guillon departure last March, added that after an "extensive" search, the board concluded that Andretta's appointment was the right decision.

Davis said in December in its half year report that "after a difficult couple of years, the steps that we have taken to return Mulberry to growth are beginning to bear fruit and looking further forward, we expect to gain further momentum from the appointment of Johnny Coca as our new creative director".
