Meggitt was on Friday awarded a multi-million dollar contract by General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS), with the defence and aerospace engineering business set to develop advanced cooling systems for next generation ground combat platforms.

Military vehicle manufacturer GDLS is a previous customer of the FTSE-250 listed company and recently won US Government backing to procure more than $250m-worth of these new cooling systems.

Meggitt has previously supplied GDLS with thermal management systems for the M1A2 SEPv3 and M1A2 KSA main battle tanks, while also providing auxiliary cooling and power systems for the company's Abrams tank programme.

Meggitt said the new cooling system builds on its pedigree in thermal management, which already includes other electrically driven cooling systems that are being implemented on electric military aircraft platforms and ground vehicles.
