High performance aerospace, defence and energy components provider Meggitt has secured a multi-million dollar contract with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), it announced on Wednesday, to supply advanced nose and main wheels, high performance carbon brakes and a brake control system for the KF-X multirole fighter jet.

The FTSE 250 company said the KF-X programme, a partnership between South Korea and Indonesia, was currently in development and expected to enter production in the mid 2020's.

It said the South Korean Air Force planned to purchase around 100 KF-X jets to replace its aging F-4D/E Phantom II and F-5E/F Tiger II aircraft, while Indonesia had a requirement for about 50 aircraft.

“The contract award extends Meggitt's relationship with KAI, which already includes braking systems for both the T-50 trainer jet family and Surion helicopter programmes,” the Meggitt board said in its statement.
