Global engineering group Meggitt has announced that Meggitt Training Systems is the reaffirmed supplier of the US Army’s next generation virtual small arms trainer, the Engagement Skills Trainer II (EST II).

This $99m contract covers 1,000+ new and upgraded systems and simulated weapons for US Army facilities worldwide. Though the contract was awarded in June, the formal announcement has been delayed until Thursday.

Meggitt has claimed that its “solution represents a significant step forward in technology and capability over the incumbent EST 2000 system”.

The virtual training system involves enhanced 3D marksmanship, an intelligent coaching application on a wireless tablet that allows trainers to change scenarios quickly within a single training session, and graphic complexity for greater realism.
