Lufthansa signs new pay deal for ground staff

Deutsche Lufthansa has agreed a new pay deal for its 30,000 ground staff.

The German airline will increase the pay for personnel at Lufthansa-Systems, Lufthansa-Service, Lufthansa Technik and Lufthansa Cargo by 2.2% at the beginning of next year and a further 2.2% at the start of 2017.

Staff members will also receive a one-off payment of €2,250.

The company continues to battle over pay with pilots and cabin crew.

Multiple strikes have taken place throughout the year over a multitude of pay-related issues, with one strike lasting a full week.

A "jobs summit" is due to take place on Wednesday, at which representatives from the various unions will meet with Lufhansa in a bid to reach an agreement over various issues.
