Support services and construction group Interserve has won a £36.5m contract to design and build a new secondary school in Caldicot, South Wales.

Caldicot School is part of Monmouthshire County Council's '21stCentury Schools Programme', which will see two new schools built in the county over the next three years.

Interserve won the contract to build the 13,076 square metre, three-storey school through the South East Wales Schools Capital Working Group. Work is underway on the project to build the new school, which will house up to 1,500 students and will open in September 2017.

Managing director Gordon Kew said: "We have a strong history of working with the education sector, having completed over 200 schemes during the last 15 years, and we look forward to providing a modern new school in Caldicot, which we hope the pupils, teachers and the local community will be proud of. As part of the project we will be creating local jobs and using members of our trusted local supply chain."

Last week, Interserve announced that it had started work on a £41.4m contract to build three new schools for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, which will be split across three sites in north, east and south Leeds.
