HSBC chairman Mark Tucker sounded a hopeful note on US-China relations while doubling down on the lender's increasing focus on Greater China.

According to Bloomberg, speaking at a discussion at a Hong Kong Academy of Finance event during the preceding week, Tucker said: "We're moving to a new status quo in Sino-U.S. relations.

"The interconnectivity is pretty powerful, and I don’t think it will get to a point where sides will need to be chosen."

In a post from HSBC on LinkedIn, at the same event, Tucker expressed "great confidence" in Hong Kong and its future.

"We are fully aware of the challenges and will continue our pivot to Asia."
