Hipgnosis celebrates 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' hitting number one

Intellectual property rights investor Hipgnosis Songs Fund revealed on Monday that Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' had hit number one on the UK Official Singles Chart Top 100 for the first time in its 26 year history.

Hipgnosis, which acquired the track in September as part of the catalogue of Walter Afanasieff, said the song had been streamed over 10.8m times over the last seven days, making it the most streamed song in a week in 2020.

Hipgnosis founder Merck Mercuriadis said: "Without the song there would be no music business and 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' is not just a beloved Christmas Carol it's a magnificent song.

"We are proud to be custodians of the wonderful work of Walter Afanasieff and delighted to see it go to Number 1 for the first time in its history in the year of our acquisition."

As of 0910 GMT, Hipgnosis shares were down 0.39% at 122.02p.
