Construction group Galliford Try has been appointed to carry out two new building contracts in the education sector worth a combined £55m.

The company’s building business has reached financial close on the £38m Hull and East Riding batch under the first phase of the government's Priority School Building programme, which includes the construction of Hessle High School & Sixth Form College.

The Morrison Construction unit has been chosen as preferred bidder by Moray Council for the refurbishment of four primary schools under the LHC Framework. The package is worth up to £17m and includes projects at Applegrove in Forres, Millbank in Buckie, Seafield in Elgin and St Gerardines in Lossiemouth.

"Education remains a cornerstone for our building business across the UK and we are delighted to have been awarded these contracts,” said Galliford chairman Greg Fitzgerald.
