Industrial and electronic products distributor Electrocomponents named Rona Fairhead as chairman designate on Tuesday.

Fairhead, the former chair and chief executive of the Financial Times, will join Electrocomponents on 1 November before stepping into her new role on 1 February.

She will succeed current chair Peter Johnson, who will remain with the group until that time.

Johnson said: "It has been a privilege to be chair of this company and it is time for me to hand over the baton.

"I am confident that the wealth of experience that Rona brings will help take it through the next phase of its journey in its goal to be first choice for its customers, suppliers and employees."

As of 0820 BST, Electrocomponents shares were untraded at 730.0p.
