British distributor of industrial and electronics products Electrocomponents said on Monday that chief executive officer Lindsley Ruth will take a temporary leave of absence while he receives treatment for a medical condition.

Electrocomponents expects Ruth to return to his position in the new year, following a short period of recovery.

"The business is in good shape. It is executing well against a clear strategy and the board has complete confidence in the strength of the senior management team under the direction of David Egan."
