Durex recalls condom batches over split concerns

Reckitt Benckiser-owned Durex has had to recall several batches of condoms made earlier this year due to fears they may split during application or use.

A statement released by the contraceptive manufacturer on Tuesday said certain batches did not reach the requirements for “burst pressure” towards the end of their shelf life.

The faulty batches of 'Real Feel' and 'Latex Free' contraceptives are on sale in the UK and Ireland and the company said there was "no immediate safety concern for consumers and only a limited number of batches are affected".

Customers can return the product and receive a full refund.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency said in a statement: “Anyone using affected batches are advised to stop use over concerns they do not meet safety standards.”

“There is a risk that the condom might tear or leak reducing its protection from sexually-transmitted diseases and pregnancy,” they added.
