Domino’s Pizza Group is to create 5,000 new jobs, the pizza delivery chain said on Tuesday.

It said the new roles included pizza chefs and delivery drivers as well as positions in customer service. The listed firm will also offer more than 1,000 placements under the government’s recently announced Kickstart Scheme, which is intended to give six-month work placements for young people on Universal Credit.

Domino’s said those on Kickstart placements would be paid in line with current store pay levels, with opportunities to apply for permanent jobs at the end of the six months.

Chief executive Dominic Paul said: "It was a privilege to keep our stores open during Covid-19.

"Together, these over 6,000 new roles will help Domino’s continue to safely serve our local communities as we head towards the busy festive period."

Domino’s, Britain’s largest pizza delivery chain, saw demand jump during lockdown, with delivery orders up 12% in the first six months of the year. However, interim profits were hit after it halted collection, invested in contactless delivery and rationalised its menu to make cooking safer.

The firm has more than 1,100 stores in the UK and Ireland, most of which are franchises apart from 36 London stores that are owned outright.
