Construction and engineering group Costain has been appointed by the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) to provide consulting services as part of its management consultancy framework.

The framework will run for four years and has been created to provide a compliant, cost-effective way for government to access consultancy advice across different sectors, from a wide range of suppliers.

Costain's place on the framework - which is split across seven lots and has a total estimated value of between £2 and £3bn - will enable clients including government bodies, sub-national bodies and local authorities to procure the business' consultancy services for a broad range of infrastructure schemes and projects.

The company will provide consultancy services on highways and roads, vehicles and traffic, transport and energy and utilities.

Chief executive Andrew Wyllie said: "We are delighted to have been selected by the Crown Commercial Service. The appointment is further testimony to Costain's strong track record of utilising our practical delivery expertise to provide advice on major national infrastructure in the UK. Additionally, it reflects the continued evolution of the company's service offering as we differentiate Costain as the UK's leading smart infrastructure solutions company."

At 1040 GMT, the shares were down 0.1% to 445.75p.
