Medical products and technology company ConvaTec Group announced the European introduction of GentleCath Glide on Monday, which it described as an “intermittent catheter” developed to provide convenient hydrophilic catheterisation for daily users.

The FTSE 100 firm said the availability of GentleCath Glide in European markets followed its successful launch in the US earlier in the year, and would be supported by the roll out of the ‘me+’ programme for continence care, which was an extension of the company's direct-to-consumer programme in ostomy care.

It said GentleCath Glide is a low friction hydrophilic intermittent catheter made with ConvaTec's FeelClean technology, which activates immediately when in contact with water.

The FeelClean technology was developed to reduce the residuals and mess left behind by catheterisation, so users could worry less about getting residue on their clothes, hands and body.

GentleCath Glide also featured a no-touch sleeve to help prevent contamination of the catheter from the hands, the ConvaTec board explained.

“We are very excited to bring our innovative GentleCath Glide and me+ care programme for intermittent catheter users to Europe," said Mads Haugaard, ConvaTec’s vice president and general manager of continence and critical care.

“We will continue to expand our GentleCath portfolio to provide greater choice and meet the needs of all intermittent catheter users.

The combination of our innovative products and services, and our strong distribution relationships from our ostomy care business uniquely positions ConvaTec to be successful in continence care in Europe.”
