The Competition and Markets Authority said on Wednesday that it has launched an investigation into Amazon's investment in Deliveroo.

The competition watchdog said it will consider whether Amazon's investment - it is the lead investor in a $575m financing round for Deliveroo - will result in a "substantial lessening" of competition in the UK.

The CMA has set a deadline of 11 December for its phase 1 decision.

Amazon announced its big investment in Deliveroo in May, although it did not give an exact figure. The financing round also includes the likes of T Rowe Price, Fidelity management and Research Company and Greenoaks.

Deliveroo said at the time that it would use the funding to invest in the technology team at its London headquarters, open more delivery-only kitchens and expand its geographic reach.
