The owners of card shop chain Clintons are reportedly looking to sell the business.

According to Sky News, the Weiss family - which also owns 40% of the second-largest card chain in the US, American Greetings - has appointed KPMG to explore a potential sale of the 334-store retailer, seven years after it collapsed into administration.

Sky cited sources as saying that a firm decision to run an auction of the company had yet to be taken but looked like the most likely outcome.

Clintons is the second-biggest card retailer in the UK after Card Factory.
