Coca‑Cola HBC said on Friday that its CEO, Dimitris Lois, will be taking a temporary leave of absence from the company in order to undergo treatment for a medical condition.

The FTSE 100 firm said Lois was currently expected to be on leave for approximately four months.

During his leave, he would stay involved in the business and would remain a member of the board of directors, while Michalis Imellos - Coca-Cola HBC's CFO - would serve as acting CEO during Lois’ absence.

“It is in the best interest of both Coca-Cola HBC and myself that I take this time to focus on my health, while Michalis and the rest of our strong leadership team continue to execute our strategy,” said Dimitris Lois.

“I am committed to continue being involved in the business during my leave and I plan to return after completing my treatment.”

Company chairman Anastassis David said the board supported Dimitris' request to take the leave, and wished him a quick recovery as he focussed on his health.

“The board has full confidence in the excellent management team that Dimitris has built.

“Michalis and the team are well equipped to continue driving the Company's strategy and manage day-to-day operations.”

Michalis Imellos joined Coca-Cola HBC in 2008 as regional finance director, and was appointed CFO in 2012.
