Barclays non-executive director Gerry Grimstone has decided to step down from his role as chairman of Barclays Bank at the end of the month.

Grimstone, also chairman of Standard Life Aberdeen, will be replaced at Barclays Bank by Nigel Higgins on 1 March.

Barclays' chairman John McFarlane said Grimstone had made an "important contribution" to the group, overseeing the establishment of its subsidiary board and governance arrangements, as well as being a senior colleague on its group board.

"I appreciate everything he has done for the company and his support of me, and I wish him well," said McFarlane.

Grimstone said: "I'm leaving Barclays in very good shape and I wish it very well for the future."

As of 1020 GMT, Barclays shares had dipped 1.39% to 158.54p.
