Online gambling company 888 Holdings named Lord Jonathan Mendelsohn as chair designate on Wednesday, with immediate effect.

Mendelsohn will succeed Brian Mattingley as chairman of the Board when the latter stands down from the group at its next annual general meeting in May 2021.

Mattingley opted to stay on until the AGM to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities between the two.

Prior to joining 888, Mendelsohn co-founded LLM Communications, a corporate and public affairs consultancy.

Mattingley said: "Jon has tremendous knowledge of the global online gaming industry, extensive deal-making experience and fantastic leadership qualities.

"I am very confident that the board will benefit significantly from Jon's vast understanding of our sector as the group continues its exciting long-term development."

As of 0835 BST, 888 shares were up 0.98% at 183.18p.
