330 jobs set to go at Royal Dutch Shell's North Sea operations

Oil giant Royal Dutch Shell announced plans to cut 330 mostly administrative jobs in Aberdeen as it reacts to weaker global demand for oil.

Some of the jobs that were set to go were also linked to the project for decommissioning the Brent Charlie platform, which was set to complete in the following two years.

In September, the outfit had already announced plans to cut staffing by 9,000 although management has reiterated its commitment to the North Sea and to continue investing in its operations in the area.

The impact of Covid-19 had also forced oil companies to speed up plans to shift away from hydrocarbons.

Shell will be left with approximately 1,000 jobs in Aberdeen after the cuts.
