UK car production dropped 3.8% in April to 128,312 units compared to a year ago as exports declined.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) revealed that while output for the domestic market rose 11.1%, exports fell 7.6% amid low demand in Europe.

Year-to-date production also fell 1.4% to 530,505 as an increase in UK output was offset by a slump in exports.

Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, however, assured that UK car production has escalated in recent years and continues to perform steadily in 2015.

“Manufacturers across the country are poised to see yet more growth following multi billion pound investments and, providing global markets perform well, output is on track to reach record levels in the next few years.”
