The government has plans to relax travel quarantines for some destinations in July, it was revealed on Friday, meaning summer holidays abroad could be back on the cards.

BBC News reported that talks were being held between UK officials and a number of other European countries, including Portugal, which previously confirmed British travellers would be “most welcome” this summer.

It’s understood the government wants to establish ‘travel corridors’ with some European destinations, meaning up to two people travelling together on a return trip would not need to self-quarantine after travelling.

The current quarantine rules require any arrival to the UK to self-isolate for two weeks on arrival, although they are up for review every three weeks - meaning an announcement on travel corridors could come on 29 June.

Countries not covered by such corridors would remain subject to the two-week isolation rule for the remainder of summer, the BBC said.
