Prime Minister David Cameron has dismissed polls pointing to a hung parliament and insisted that with one day to go, the Conservative party can still win a majority and ensure a "strong, stable government that continues with a long-term economic plan that is working".

He pledged that a Conservative government would safeguard against extensive borrowing and higher taxes from Labour, and ensure financial security for British people of all ages.

"If Britain delivers a Conservative government, I make this promise: Britain will continue on the road to a brighter future. Our policies will deliver more childcare and jobs, help people buy their homes, cut taxes, and give people the retirement deserve," he said.

Cameron warned that voting UKIP or Liberal Democrats could "open the back to door to a Labour government", who in turn would be propped up the the SNP and take Britain back to "square one".

He concluded that Britain will not reap the rewards of the last five years of sacrifice without the Conservatives implementing sustainable reforms to welfare and education.
