With less than 24 hours until polls open, Miliband has said he believes the public will "make the right judgement" at the ballot boxes.

While polling indicates that no party will win a majority in the House of Commons, Miliband insisted he would "go right down to the wire" to ensue Labour holds as many seats as possible.

Miliband spent the last day of campaigning in north-west England and Yorkshire, where when asked if he thinks he will be the next prime minister, he replied: "I'm optimistic but it will be in the hands of the people come tomorrow and I know the people will make the right judgment."

Avoiding questions about potential deals in the event of a hung parliament, Miliband reiterated that the Labour party would put working families first, unlike the Conservatives, who he claimed prioritised the "rich and powerful".

"I think on the ballot paper is the National Health Service, tax credits and child benefits, family finances, our young people and that's why I ask people to vote Labour," he concluded.
