Asia report: Oil fills up markets on quiet trading day

Higher oil prices filled up markets across Asia on Thursday, after some choppy trading earlier in the session.

On the mainland, the Shanghai Composite Index closed up 0.23% at 2,998.14, and the Shenzhen Composite added 0.72% to finish at 1,942.54.

The China Caixin services purchasing managers’ index was released during the morning, and came in at 51.8 for the month of April. Being above 50 it still indicated expansion, but showed a slowing since March’s figure of 52.2.
