US and Cuba will on Wednesday announce the opening of embassies in each other's capitals for first time since the early 1960s.

This move followed the US removal of Cuba from the country's terrorist list in May 2015, where it had been since 1982 for its support to Communist guerrilla movement in Latin America and in Africa.

Negotiations between the two nations were restored in December last year after relations between both countries were frozen in the early 1960s, when the US broke ties with the Cuban nation and imposed a trade embargo.

In April, President Barack Obama and his Cuban counterpart, Raul Castro, met for the first formal talks between the two countries' leaders in more than half a century.

US officials said Obama would make a formal announcement from the White House, although the date for opening the embassies has already been set on 20 July.
