Turkish lira lower on report central bank deputy governor set to leave

Turkey's currency, the lira, slid sharply lower in afternoon trading following a report that one of the top officials at the country's central bank's would soon announce his intention of leaving.

According to Reuters, which cited two sources familiar with the matter, deputy governor Erkan Kilimci was set to step down.

Earlier in the session, the Development Bank of Turkey announced that Kilimci had joined its board.

Thursday was a public holiday in Turkey.

As of 1411 BST, the US dollar was tacking on 4.95% against the lira to trade at 6.7887, which was just a shade beneath the record closing high of 6.88 reached on 13 August.

The Greenback was also making fresh inroads against the likes of the Argentine peso, rising 3.56% to 35.2120.
