US President Donald Trump will travel to the UK in December to attend a NATO meeting, the White House said in a statement on Friday.

Trump intends to discuss defence spending, and address threats “emanating from cyberspace, those affecting our critical infrastructure and telecommunications networks, and those posed by terrorism”, the statement read.

The president has repeatedly expressed concerns that other countries are not putting enough finances into the military alliance.

Trump will also attend a reception hosted by the Queen during his visit from 2-4 December.

The December summit will mark 70 years of the NATO alliance and is being hosted in London, the week before the public goes to the polls for a snap general election.

NATO Security General Jens Stoltenberg says the summit aims to "ensure that NATO continues to adapt in order to keep its population of almost one billion people safe".
