Trump sacks communications director Scaramucci after just 10 days

US President Donald Trump has sacked his communications director Anthony Scaramucci just 10 days after his appointment to the White House position.

Scaramucci’s departure came just hours after the appointment of former marine John Kelly as the new chief of staff, with the general having a reputation of implementing a tight line of discipline.

Former financier Scaramucci, known as 'the Mooch', had been lambasted for a foul-mouthed outburst against several other members of the US administration, including the departed chief of staff Reince Priebus.

Trump’s government has been hit with a number of high-profile departures in recent weeks, with press secretary Sean Spicer resigning following Scaramucci’s appointment.

The President denied that his administration had been plunged into chaos with the raft of exits, saying on Monday that it was "a great day at the White House".

“Anthony Scaramucci will be leaving his role as White House communications director,” press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement on Monday.

“Mr Scaramucci felt it was best to give chief of staff John Kelly a clean slate and the ability to build his own team. We wish him all the best.”

The former Wall Street banker’s comments to The New Yorker last week was easily the defining moment of his brief stint as communications director, with Sanders saying that his comments were deemed ‘inappropriate’ by Kelly.

Trump was adamant that the White House was in perfect working order in a series of tweets on Monday following the firing of Scaramucci.

“Highest Stock Market EVER, best economic numbers in years, unemployment lowest in 17 years, wages raising, border secure, SC: No WH chaos!” Trump tweeted.

“A great day at the White House!” he added.
