Nearly 23% of those polled backed Syriza, while 19.5% supported the conservative New Democracy party, a ProRata survey based on a sample of 1,000 interviewees published by Greek Efimerida Ton Syntakton newspaper said on Friday.

Popular Unity, a party formed last week by Syriza members who opposed the country's latest €86bn bailout agreement, was backed by 3.5% of those interviewed, narrowly beating the 3% level needed to have representation in the country's Parliament.

Independent Greeks, the ally in Tsipras' former coalition government, won 2% of the support.

Nevertheless, the poll showed that most Greeks remained undecided about whom to vote for, with 25% of those polled saying so.
