EU car registrations drop as crisis hits demand

EU car registrations fell 19.3% in February as Covid-19 containment measures and uncertainty continued to weigh on demand, industry figures showed

The 771,486 vehicles registered across the EU was the lowest February figure since 2013 during the eurozone crisis, trade body ACEA said.

The big four EU markets all dropped, led by Spain where registrations plunged 38%. Registrations fell 21% in France, 19% in Germany and 12% in Italy.

February's figures meant registrations were 22% lower in the first two months of 2021 from a year earlier, led by Spain with a 45% decline.
