Italy experiences sharp drop in daily rate of new infections

The number of new Covid-19 infections and of fatalities continued to fall back at the start of the week.

According to ANSA, the former rose by just 1,648 from the day before to reach 75,528, versus an increase of 3,815 on Sunday.

The 2% increase in the caseload was the lowest percentage point increase since the beginning of the pandemic.

The daily number of fatalities meanwhile slowed for a second day running to reach 11,591.
