Israeli researchers have claimed that an off-the-shelf treatment may possibly reduce the symptoms from Covid-19 to those of the common cold.

That was the main conclusion laid out in a non-peer reviewed study by scientists at Hebrew University of Jerusalem working with together with New York’s Mount Sinai Medical Center.

They alleged that use of Fenofibrate, also known as Tricor, could impede Covid-19's ability to reproduce itself or even make it vanish, the Dailywire and the Jerusalem Post reported.

"Viruses are parasites. They cannot replicate themselves. They cannot make new viruses. They have to get inside a human cell and then hijack that cell," one of the researchers reportedly said.

They found that the virus keeps lung cells from burning carbohydrates, resulting the in the build-up of fat which they need to reproduce inside the cells.

Tricor triggers fat burning by cells and when tested the virus nearly disappeared in five days.

The researchers were hoping to progress clinical studies in both Israel and the US by the end of July.
