French consumer confidence edges higher in August

French consumer confidence edged higher in August, with people judging that their personal financial situation had improved in the recent past.

INSEE's barometre of consumer spirits rose from 96 in July to 97 in August, with a sub-index tracking their personal finances in the past rising from -28 to -21, while their outlook for the same was steady at -10.

Another sub-index referencing their ability to save edged higher from 8 in July to 10 in August.

However, sub-indices linked to living standards in France, both past and present, showed some deterioration.

Frenchmen also grew more pessimistic regarding the outlook for unemployment, with the corresponding sub-index rising from 26 to 34.
