US automobile safety officials on Friday said they had opened an investigation into 115,0000 Tesla vehicles over safety issues linked to their suspension systems.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a preliminary evaluation into 2015-2017 Model S and the 2016-2017 Model X vehicles after customers complained about failures in the left or right suspension fore links.

According to the agency, the carmaker in February 2017 issued a service bulletin describing a manufacturing condition that might result in front suspension fore link failures.

The news of the probe came in the same week during which Tesla was forced to recall nearly 10,000 Model X from 2016 over problems with the roof trim which could be wrongly attached.

The failures could mean that in a worst case scenario, the driver could lose control of the vehicle and possibly crash.
