United Airlines offers transatlantic flights from Denmark for £50 after glitch hits website

US carrier United Airlines inadvertently offered first-class transatlantic flights for as little as £50 because of a glitch on its website.

All users had to do was log onto the carrier's website and change their host country to Denmark to be able to book a round-trip flight between London’s Heathrow airport and Newark’s Liberty International airport for 491 Danish kroner (just under £49).

The glitch, which was spotted by travel blog DansDeals, also allowed traveller to purchase cheap tickets to any US destination from Heathrow.

Travellers were advised to choose first class or business class tickets and to use a card without a foreign transaction fee and to not sign into their United account.

"United is looking into an issue whereby a third-party software provider applied an incorrect exchange rate for tickets sold from the airline’s Denmark website," a spokesman for the airline said on Wednesday.

"We have temporarily suspended sales from the Denmark website and are working to resolve the issue with the provider."

United Airlines hasn't confirmed whether it would honour the tickets that had already been bought, as it did in similar circumstances in the past.
