The chief executive of controversial ride-hailing app Uber has arrived in London for crunch talks with Transport for London, which refused to renew the company’s licence to operate in the capital.

Dara Khosrowshahi recently took over the reins from Travis Kalanick following a messy departure which led to a lawsuit from one of Uber’s key investors against the former CEO.

Khosrowshahi is due to meet with TfL commissioner Mike Brown in order to discuss the removal of Uber’s licence, which the body justified by saying it was not 'fit and proper' to operate in the city.

Uber has already apologised for some of its practices, and Khosrowshahi is reported to be willing to offer concessions if its licence were to be renewed.

The CEO has previously said that Uber has been punished for a ‘bad reputation’ it earned in the last few years.

"The truth is that there is a high cost to a bad reputation," he wrote. "It really matters what people think of us, especially in a global business like ours.

On Monday Uber’s UK head Jo Bertram stood down ahead of the meeting, with the company saying that her departure was not related to the non-renewal of the firm’s London licence.
