Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has announced that the social networking company is buying another machine learning business, London-based Magic Pony.

Magic Pony specialises in visual processing and claims they can make "algorithms that can understand the features of imagery".

Twitter has agreed to pay $150m (£102m) for the acquisition, with Magic Pony's employees joining Twitter Cortex, the machine learning unit of Dorsey's company.

Dorsey said machine learning was "increasingly at the core of everything we build at Twitter" as he structured the business as "the best place to see what’s happening and why it matters, first".

Previously, Twitter bought Madbits in 2014 and artificial intelligence company Whetlab in 2015.

Dorsey explained that it will “enhance our strength in live and video and opens up a whole lot of exciting creative possibilities for Twitter.”
