Sanofi’s chief executive Chris Viehbacher on Tuesday revealed he remained uncertain about his future at the drugmaker.

Viehbacher told Reuters that his chairman declined to clarify his future during a meeting on Monday and was unsure whether the board supported him as head of the firm.

Viehbacher confirmed reported that when he asked about his position, chairman Serge Weinberg dismissed the subject by saying it was "not on the agenda”.

The news comes after the French company warned that its key diabetes business would probably not grow next year.
Vagueness over Viehbacher's role first surfaced on Monday.

"My job is to run the company and I think I've done a good job with that for six years, that's what I'm focused on. After that it's up to the board... But there's a difference between board members and the board," Viehbacher said in the interview.
