Finnish technology company HMD Global has delighted technophobes around the globe by announcing the triumphant return of the Nokia 3310 mobile phone, billed as one of the earliest and most resilient modern day phones.

The device was originally released at the beginning of the new millennium, but will get a makeover and be relaunched in 2017, with the classic features of a clock, calculator and hit game Snake II.

According to reports from those in the tech industry, the new model will be released at the Mobile World Congress at the end of February, and is expected to cost a mere €59.

The MW Congress takes place in Barcelona on 26 February, gathering some of the world's largest smartphone makers to the Catalan capital.

Nokia was sold to Microsoft after struggling to keep up with a saturated smartphone market, with fellow Finnish company HMD Global purchasing the naming rights of the brand.

HMD will now use those naming rights to launch four new mobile phones, according to VentureBeat's Evan Blass.

The launch of the new phones is expected to be targeted towards European marketplaces intitially, before being opened up to a global reach.

In an age of smartphones with endless capabilities and functions but limited battery life, the 3310's lengthy charges will appeal to those who are fed up with the draining power of modern day iPhones and Galaxies.
