Moderna to supply EU with additional 150m doses of its Covid vaccine

The European Commission has purchased an additional 150m doses of Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine, due to be delivered in the third and fourth quarter of the year.

Moderna’s chief executive officer, Stephane Bancel, said this most recent purchase brings the European Commission’s total order for the company’s vaccine to 310m for delivery this year.

"The European Commission is in discussions with us on how to prepare for 2022, including addressing potential variants, and the Commission has an option for an additional 150 million doses for delivery in 2022," Bancel said. "Moderna is committed to working relentlessly to bring to market vaccine boosts with the relevant variants to address this global pandemic."

Also on Wednesday, Pfizer and BioNTech agreed to supply the EU with an additional 200 million doses of their Covid-19 vaccine. The European Commission also has an option to request the supply of an extra 100m doses.
