Moderna on track to deliver 100m doses of Covid-19 vaccine by end of Q1

Moderna said on Tuesday that 30.4m doses of its Covid-19 vaccine have been supplied to date to the US government and it is on track to deliver around 100m doses by the end of the first quarter.

The US biotechnology group said it continues to work closely with the US government and to provide regular updates on supply and production.

Around 10.1 million doses have been administered in the US, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"The company confirms that it is on track to deliver on its commitment of approximately 100m doses to the United States government by the end of the first quarter of 2021, with 200m doses total available by the end of the second quarter," Moderna said.

"All US supply comes from Moderna’s dedicated supply chain in the US. On January 4, the company announced that it increased its base-case global production estimate from 500 to 600m doses for 2021. Moderna is continuing to invest and add staff to build up to potentially 1bn doses for 2021."

Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine received Emergency Use Authorisation from the US Food and Drug Administration on 18 December and the company began supplying to the government shortly thereafter.

The US government has agreed to buy 200m doses, with options for potential purchase of 300m additional doses.

Moderna announced on Monday that it was developing an emerging variant booster after a strain of Covid-19 discovered in South Africa showed itself to be more resistant to the company's existing vaccine.
